The national environmental advocacy group Food & Water Action is endorsing State Representative Summer Lee in the Democratic primary to represent Allegheny County in Congress.

Food & Water Action has worked with Rep. Lee since her first run for office in 2018, when the group was an early endorser of her campaign, which focused on protecting her community from a proposed fracking well.  Her advocacy jumpstarted an effort by Food & Water Action and grassroots groups that defeated the project.

While in Harrisburg, Rep. Lee fought against fossil fuel handouts, frequently bucking her own party leadership to do so.

Food & Water Action Pennsylvania Director Megan McDonough issued the following statement:

“I know Summer Lee will be a righteous member of Congress because she’s been a righteous State Representative and Mon Valley community leader. Time and again, Representative Lee has put the needs of her constituents over corporate profit. We’re excited to get her elected and work with her as Congresswoman Summer Lee.”

For the past five years, Food & Water Action has worked in communities around Allegheny County to pass municipal ordinances protecting families from fracking. The group has built power around the county, and looks forward to using its power around the country to elect strong climate champions to Congress.
