Agudelo to join other candidates in ushering in new era of climate leadership in Albany
Food & Water Action, the political and lobbying arm of the national advocacy organization Food & Water Watch, is endorsing another strong climate champion for state legislature: Vanessa Agudelo for State Assembly District 95.
“After what we’ve seen in the final days of the legislative session, we desperately need real climate leaders in Albany with the vision and political will to enact our state’s climate goals. Vanessa Agudelo is exactly that kind of person,” said Food & Water Action Northeast Region Director Alex Beauchamp. “As a former council member and seasoned climate activist, Vanessa has been on the frontlines fighting fossil fuels, and organizing to stop corporate polluters like Danskammer. She has a proven record fighting for environmental justice in the Hudson Valley and she is a powerful force to be reckoned with.”
Vanessa Agudelo is running a people-powered campaign to replace the retiring Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, whose district includes the Westchester Wheelabrator, the largest source of pollution in Westchester county. Agudelo is the bold and uncompromising voice we need to win the policies and actions to combat the climate crisis and protect the most vulnerable communities in Westchester and throughout the state.
“I’m honored to be endorsed by Food & Water Action. As a Peekskill City Council member, I was one of the first elected officials in the Hudson Valley to join the successful movement to stop the Danskammer fracked gas plant, and I will be proud to continue our fight together in the halls of Albany as an assembly member,” said Vanessa Agudelo, candidate for AD 95. “The environmental justice movement has long been one of my political homes and it is this people power movement that is going to send our campaign to the Assembly.”
Vanessa joins a slate of other Food & Water Action endorsed climate candidates in the state including David Alexis and Illapa Sairitupac in New York City and Sarahana Shrestha in Hudson Valley, all of whom also recently received the endorsement of sitting Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The four candidates are poised to change the business as usual culture in Albany and make sure climate change is taken seriously.
“We’re so excited Food & Water Action is joining a movement of climate organizations like Sunrise NYC working to elect Vanessa Agudelo. Young people are fighting for our lives, but the political establishment stands in the way,” said Saul Ferholt-Kahn of Sunrise NYC. “Throughout her career, Vanessa has consistently championed a Green New Deal future. I know Vanessa is one of us, and this campaign is just the beginning.”
