Group Touts Candidates’ Commitment to a Green New Deal for New York
For Immediate Release
Food & Water Action, the political arm of the national advocacy organization Food & Water Watch, is endorsing two strong environmental champions for state legislature in Brooklyn: Jabari Brisport for the District 25 State Senate seat, and Phara Souffrant Forrest in the race for the Assembly seat in the overlapping District 57.
Brisport and Souffrant Forrest won the endorsement based on their commitment to moving New York to 100% renewable energy by 2030, stopping fossil fuel infrastructure projects, and protecting publicly-owned water systems from corporate takeover.
“Jabari Brisport and Phara Souffrant Forrest are the progressive champions Brooklyn deserves to represent us in Albany. We need strong leadership to enact a Green New Deal for New York to move the state off fossil fuels as fast as possible,” said Alex Beauchamp, Northeast Region Director with Food & Water Action. “Jabari and Phara are fighters, and we’re excited to fight with them to stop all fossil fuel projects and demand a swift transition to 100% renewable energy.”
Both candidates have endorsed the four core goals of the Movement for a Green New Deal coalition, of which Food & Water Action is a founding member:
- No new fossil fuel infrastructure in New York
- 100% Renewable Energy
- Public Power Now
- Tax on the ultra wealthy to pay for it
Across the state, Food & Water Action organizers and volunteers lead campaigns to shut down fossil fuel infrastructure and enact a Green New Deal for New York, most recently winning a huge victory in stopping the Williams fracked gas pipeline proposed for New York Harbor. In 2018, Food & Water Action made key endorsements and deployed its statewide power to send strong climate champions to Albany.
