The national advocacy group Food & Water Action is endorsing Mondaire Jones and Jamaal Bowman, two progressive Democrats running for Congress in New York state.
In races across the country, Food & Water Action is backing candidates who are bold leaders committed to taking on the most pressing public health, environmental and climate challenges of our time.
Jones and Bowman have committed to supporting a national ban on fracking and halting new fossil fuel infrastructure, supporting a strong Green New Deal, and co-sponsoring the WATER Act, which would improve infrastructure and protect clean water for all.
Both candidates have spoken out forcefully about environmental justice, and will counter the push by corporate interests to double down on dirty fossil fuels when the nation begins to recover from the COVID epidemic.
“These are candidates who will stand up to protect their communities — and the planet — from corporate polluters,” said Food & Water Action organizer Santosh Nandabalan. “Mondaire Jones and Jamaal Bowman are real progressive champions who will walk the walk, and provide the leadership we need in Washington, DC right now. We’re in a moment of national crisis, and we cannot create the world we need by playing politics-as-usual.”
In answers to Food & Water Action’s candidate questionnaire, Bowman and Jones clearly articulated a vision for bold action to directly and rapidly reduce carbon emissions, instead of relying on taxes or other gimmicks that have proven ineffective.
Food & Water Action is the affiliated 501(c)4 arm of Food & Water Watch, one of the groups that led the successful statewide fight to ban fracking. Food & Water Watch organizers and volunteers lead campaigns to shut down fossil fuel infrastructure on the fracked gas power plants and pipelines proposed across New York.
