Food & Water Action Endorses MaryJane (MJ) Shimsky for NY Assembly District 92
Published June 13, 2024
Today, Food & Water Action, the political arm of the national advocacy organization Food & Water Watch, endorsed Assemblymember MaryJane (MJ) Shimsky for re-election in New York’s 92nd Assembly District, covering most of the Town of Greenburgh, the Town of Mount Pleasant and part of northwest Yonkers, in Westchester County.
Shimsky won the endorsement based on her firm commitment to clean water and climate action. Since taking office, Shimsky has fought for critical bills including the Save the Hudson Bill, signed into law in 2023; the Climate Change Superfund Act, which passed the legislature this week; and the NY HEAT Act.
With the endorsement, Food & Water Action Volunteer Iris Hiskey Arno, a constituent of Assemblymember Shimsky, issued the following statement:
“Assemblymember Shimsky has proven herself an environmental champion, repeatedly going to bat against dirty energy interests to protect our climate, environment, regional economy and public health. There are many environmental challenges ahead of us, from fighting for on-site radioactive waste storage at Indian Point and stopping Enbridge’s dangerous Project Maple fossil fuel expansion in Westchester to passing the NY HEAT and Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Acts. Westchester residents need bold leaders like MaryJane Shimsky who are fighting alongside us, not just cosponsoring bills or giving lip service to activists demanding real action.”
