Peters is the Climate Champion in this Race

National environmental groups Food & Water Action and Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund are endorsing State Senator Robert Peters’ campaign for Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District ahead of the March 17th primary election.

Peters has taken strong positions on key climate issues, supporting limits on the massive data center buildout, and committing to hold polluters accountable through federal legislation like the Make Polluters Pay Act which would force fossil fuel companies to pay for the climate-related damages they have done. Peters has also signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge. Peters’ advocacy has made him a target of corporate interests, billionaire Trump donor Marc Andreesen launching a $1 million campaign attacking him.

Food & Water Action Political Director Sam Bernhardt said: “Senator Peters isn’t just a climate champion; he’s a natural organizer who knows how to work with movements to make change happen. We’re proud to stand with him.”

Stephanie Kurose, Northeast Political Director at the Center Action Fund, said: “Senator Peters has been a steadfast champion fighting for a more just, healthier future for the people of Illinois. We need someone like him in Congress who is willing to go to battle against extreme Republicans and their corporate funders when the health of our communities and environment are on the line. We’re excited to endorse him and looking forward to his leadership in Washington, DC.”

Food & Water Action, the political and lobbying arm of the national advocacy group Food & Water Watch, mobilizes people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water and climate problems of our time. We work to protect people’s health, communities and democracy from the growing destructive power of the most powerful economic interests.

The Center Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda. The Center Action Fund is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the Center for Biological Diversity, but these organizations’ names are not interchangeable. This news release is from the Center Action Fund, not the Center for Biological Diversity.
