Hoboken, NJ — Today, Food & Water Action announced its endorsement of Emily Jabbour for Hoboken Mayor. The group – a national leader in climate, food, water, and democracy advocacy – is backing Jabbour, who has been a consistent ally of Food & Water Action’s work to stop dirty, dangerous and unnecessary fossil fuel development projects in Hudson County. Earlier this year she helped Hoboken become the first municipality in New Jersey to pass a resolution supporting the Climate Superfund Act, landmark revenue-raising legislation that would require fossil fuel polluters – not communities – to shoulder the growing cost of climate-related events.

With the endorsement, Matt Smith, New Jersey Director at Food & Water Action issued the following statement:

“Hoboken is a city at sea level with a history of devastating flooding — it needs a climate mayor. Emily Jabbour is the candidate to make that happen. During Jabbour’s time on City Council, Hoboken has been a major leader in the fight against climate change, becoming the first city in New Jersey to sue the fossil fuel industry for climate costs; committing to net zero emissions by 2030; and making historic investments in flood mitigation. Food & Water Action is proud to endorse Jabbour for Hoboken Mayor, where she will prioritize climate leadership and center affordability and transparency for residents.”
