East Greenbush, NY — Today, roughly two dozen Capital District climate activists, including many residents of the 19th Congressional District rallied in East Greenbush against U.S Rep. Marc Molinaro and the dangerous right wing Project 2025 agenda. While deadly hurricanes Helene and Milton underscore the need for climate leadership in Congress, Project 2025 seeks to:

• Dismantle the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
• Majorly downsize the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
• Deny climate change and climate science

Activists rallied in support of Josh Riley, candidate for NY-19, who has committed to fighting the climate crisis, and guarding New York communities from the impacts of extreme weather, while Rep. Marc Molinaro votes to repeal federal clean energy incentives, and supports the fracking and offshore drilling behind climate change-fueled extreme weather.

“Even as families recover from devastating climate disasters, right wing pundits are scheming to make it worse. From backing climate killing fossil fuels to dismantling federal support agencies, the dangerous Project 2025 agenda is no answer to the crisis we face. Rep. Molinaro has made his pro fossil fuel position crystal clear — and New Yorkers aren’t buying it. We need a climate champion representing NY-19 in Washington, and Josh Riley is the candidate to make it happen.”

“Sound scientific research confirms that we are on a ‘disastrous trajectory’ with ‘no adequate global governance’ to deal with the scale of threats posed by climate tipping points. So, we must ask why Congressman Marc Molinaro repeatedly votes against climate legislation. Last year, as reported by the League of Conservation Voters, Molinaro voted ‘anti-environment’ on 81% of the most important environmental legislation. This obstructionist approach to governing only speeds up the pace toward catastrophic tipping points. Molinaro and the MAGA Republicans are literally stealing from our children’s future while continuing to enable the Big Oil Barons and their investors,” said Michael Richardson, Third Act Upstate New York.

“At a time when superstorms, flooding and other extreme weather events are threatening residents of the 19th Congressional District and elsewhere, we need the kind of leadership Josh Riley will bring to Congress,” said Bob Cohen, Policy and Research Director of Citizen Action of New York and a 19th Congressional District resident. “As his voting record shows, Congressman Molinaro is aligned with the reactionary forces who wrote the Project 2025 document, who downplay the need to address climate change and to protect the environment in favor of their pro-corporate agenda. He does not deserve re-election.”
