For Immediate Release
Food & Water Action, the political arm of the national advocacy organization Food & Water Watch, has endorsed Sarahana Shrestha in the race for Assembly District 103, covering portions of Ulster and Dutchess Counties.
Sarahana won the endorsement based on a firm commitment to moving New York to 100 percent renewable energy, stopping fossil fuel infrastructure projects and protecting publicly-owned water systems from corporate takeover.
With the endorsement, Food & Water Action Organizer Emily Skydel issued the following statement:
“Sarahana is a proven climate leader in the Hudson Valley who has led on issues including stopping the polluting Danskammer power plant and establishing public power statewide. Hudson Valley residents are looking for bold leadership on climate, and Sarahana is the candidate in this race most serious about moving New York off of fossil fuels.
“Her opponent, incumbent Assembly Member Kevin Cahill, was silent on the proposed Danskammer fracked gas power plant expansion. Thankfully the project was recently denied, but there are more battles ahead for the Hudson Valley. We need moral courage from our elected leaders against this powerful industry. Sarahana understands the severity of the crisis and is willing to tackle it head on. We are proud to endorse Sarahana and look forward to seeing her lead in the Assembly.”
